While Korean dramas have been always popular, I never grown fond of them. I'm liking the fact that they're adopting Japanese dramas because just maybe they'll lose that tension where the boyfriend is dating a girl who's also in love with the boyfriends best friend, who has a crush on the other girl who likes the first girl's boyfriend. But judging by what anbu-black-ops said, I'm not too sure that this is gonna be a fun drama. I'd like some comedy like in Coffee Prince and too much drama. Then again, it wouldn't really be a drama, then:p

Coffee prince? Isn't that the one where the girl pretends to be a guy? I've seen some other shows with that theme and actually got fond of watching them primarily because of all the girls with short hair...

QUOTE (anbu-black-ops @ Sep 24 2009, 07:38 PM)In the Korean drama version, the lead is not a teenager but a 30-year-old woman who is a stylist at a beauty salon without any clients. Well, based on this, it already sounds like it has potential (to me, anyway). Though the J-drama's version also didn't have a teenage heroine, she may as well have been because she was so... squeamish (for lack of a better word) around Night (didn't want to kiss him or touch him, flipped out over his relatively innocent "advances," etc.). I'm not saying I want her to gleefully molest him at every turn but it was hard to want to see them together when she's vehemently pushing him away the entire time (which is why, at the end of Zettai Kareshi, I felt like Riko didn't deserve Night after all). So I wonder how the K-Drama will handle it the romance(s) involved (I'm assuming the moviestar ex will be the Soshi character in the inevitable love-rectangle). Will Riko (or whatever they name the heroine) still end up with Night? Will Night also "deactivate" at the end? (which sucked) Hmm, who am I kidding, I'll be watching this anyway. Sounds like it'll be significantly different enough to potentially change most of the things I didn't like about the Japanese adaptation. *crosses fingers* Anyway, thanks anbu-black-ops for putting this firmly on my radar!

Heh, you guys have started a good conversation! Zettai kareshi in Korean? I REALLY wanna see that! I loved the manga and maybe that was the reason that i couldnt tolerate it in Jdrama
wink.gif
Well maybe the salesman was the only one that actually was a bit close to the actual manga character...

Dear poonk you mentoned not wanting to watch kekkon dekinai otoko in korean but for me, I can actually say I enjoyed it much more than the original and please keep in mind that the orginal`s heroes are both of my most favorite J. actors

Anyway, what I am trying to say is that koreans give a little more when it comes to acting... Sigh... I dont know maybe I am just weird ....

So these days I am watching Hong Gil Dong, I am not sure if you guys talked about it already but I really like it. Its historic, comedy , drama , action and of course romance.... heh the whole package
biggrin.gif
the hero is a somewhat korean Robin hood, you know, steal from the rich give to the poor but he is also kinda ridiculous... Nobody takes him seriously including himself

QUOTE (chiisai_hana @ Sep 05 2009, 06:42 AM)Has anyone watched Dream? While I'm not entirely against sport themes, I'm not sure how interested I'd be in wrestling. I am, however, interested in Son Dam Bi - but I get the impression the drama isn't doing well? Anyone think it's worth finding the time to watch?

Hello Chisai

Are you watching Dream? I`ve been thinking of watching it after watching the protagonist in Frozen Flower heh.... Yaoiiiiiii

I think a guy from hana yori dango`s flower five, plays there too... maybe I will give it a try S2 is already handling the softsubs if you`re interesting.

Maybe after some time has passed I'll reconsider-- I mean, it's been less than a month since I finished the K-drama version.

I dont know maybe I am just weird ....I also think that sometimes the writing in K-dramas tends to be, hmm, "soapier," for lack of a better word. They generally seem to lay on the melodrama more thickly than J-dramas, even in the comedies (which are what I tend to watch over the "serious" dramas). I think this is part of why I usually tend to prefer J-dramas, given the same subject matter/source material. Don't get me wrong, I still watch K-dramas, but definitely not as many as J-dramas; I'm also pickier about which ones I will check out and I often need to take "breaks" between them. But an Absolute Boyfriend adaptation is a pretty easy sell to me. Although I'd really like to know who the male stars will be!

I haven't started watching it yet, but I've still been debating it. I've gotten hooked into Style instead (anyone watching that one? I love the soundtrack, and its ability to entertain me

)

As for the remake of Absolute Boyfriend I don't think I can watch another. The Jdrama wasn't bad, I just don't like the concept enough to watch yet another reincarnation - even if they strengthen the main character's portrayal.

There's a lot of new shows coming out - what is everyone looking forward to? Right now I'm just planning to watch Pasta, but I've started watching the 2006 kdrama 101st Proposal too.

I keep trying to finish the jdrama Osen, but my computer has been giving me trouble and I never get around to the last episode before having to empty the hard drive! One day I will finish that show ...!

Well... This past season I tried watching Tokyo DOGS (Mizushima Hiro, why do they let you mug like that?) and Samurai High School (couldn't get into the reincarnated samurai schtick, sorry) but the only current drama that ended up catching me was Ohitorisama. It's a light-hearted romantic comedy between teachers, older-woman/younger-man a la Kimi wa Petto, Suppli, etc. It's very reminiscent of those, actually, especially Suppli. It's kinda by-the-numbers in that respect (since I've seen something similar before) but it's still relatively amusing and Teppei Koike is such a cutie (though he still looks more like a HS student than a teacher).

My drama-viewing sorta got derailed by, of all people, my drama-watching friend with the British series Torchwood (I'll admit it, the fangirl in me loves Capt. Jack Harkness somethin' fierce, no joke
wub.gif
) and subsequently Doctor Who (of which Torchwood is a spin-off/anagram), so my viewing time is currently being monopolized by that (forgot what it's like to watch things in English-- though I still often flip on the subs because those English/Welsh accents can be pretty thick to my ear). Once I catch up with Doctor Who I'll probably resume my drama-watching. Gotta give the fansubbers a head start, right?

Pasta sounds interesting, though. I hadn't heard of it before. I liked Gong Hyo Jin in Hello My Teacher (also an older-woman-younger-man series
tongue.gif
). The only problem with restaurant series is that I get so hungry after watching the food-porn in them, y'know? And whatever I have to eat just doesn't compare to what I'm being shown...
dry.gif

I know what you mean about getting derailed! A certain raw provider is currently shut down so I haven't been finding time to download shows, just the subtitle files. Which is just as well, since I should be getting a head start on my term work! But in the meantime, my fangirl heart has gone back to the latest season of Supernatural

Ohitorisama sounds like an interesting drama, I'll have to check it out sometime. When I was watching Osen recently, I realized my Japanese was getting rusty so a jdrama sounds like a refreshing change.

The actress, Jang Ja-yeon, who plays Sunny (one of the 3 mean girls) in the Korean version of Hana Yori Dango has committed suicide. I haven't had the chance to watch the K-Version of Boys over Flowers yet and to discover this new just now......kinda makes me want to avoid the K-version completely. Its kinda creepy seeing a young actress on the screen who had died recently......gives me vibes that makes it feel kinda freaky.
wink.gif
Oh she died almost one year ago.....7th March 2009.

Anyone know whatever happened to the Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto (Someday's Dreamer) live action adaptation? I heard it aired in Japan in December 2008, but I can't seem to find any other information on it.

I've heard a bit about Personal Taste, is that worth checking out?
